This year the Texas Note Company participated in our first ever JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at The Domain in Austin, Texas. The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is a fun, happy, healthy, and effective way to show support for all those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to raise funds for JDRF. The walk was an opportunity to show our support and encouragement for company founder’s oldest daughter, Katharine. Katharine was diagnosed in March of this year with Type 1 Diabetes and she has been tenacious in her efforts to not let it affect her daily life as an 11-year old middle school girl.
Check out the Fox News Video and Article for The Walk To Cure Diabetes. The walk is designed to connect walkers and their families to an extensive network of volunteers and donors who are committed to finding a cure for this serious disease. Keri Bellacosa and Lauren Petrowski from Fox 7 TV were the emcees for the event, where approximately 5,000 people participated in the 16th annual walk, many in team t-shirts and others in Halloween costumes. Type 1 Diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children with type 1 diabetes can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy, happy lives. The Texas Note Company and Team Katharine were able to raise $4,500 thanks to contributions from supporters. In addition, the City of Austin raised over $650,000 for the cause. Thanks to all who supported Team Katharine and JDRF. These contributions allow JDRF to focus on key therapies that hold significant promise in turning Type One into Type None.
